Paper Chromatography: Separation and Identification of Five Metal Cations

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Most chemists and many other scientists must routinely separate mixtures and identify their components. The ability to qualitatively identify the substances found in a sample can be critical. For example, an environmental chemist investigating samples of polluted ground water will want to know which toxic ions might be present in a sample. Chromatography is one of the first tools employed in such situations. Using this technique many types of mixtures can be separated into the component pure substances, and by comparison to a standard sample, each component substance can also be tentatively identified.

Use of Micellar Anionic Surfactant Solutions with Added Carbohydrates as Mobile Phases in Thin-layer Chromatography of Heavy Metal Cations. Separation of Mixtures of Aluminium(iii), Manganese(ii), and Chromium(vi)

A new thin-layer chromatographic system comprising silica gel ‘G’ as stationary phase and a micellar solution of sodium dodecyl sulphate (0.01 M) with added maltose (0.5 M) in 7:3 (v/v) ratio has been identified as most favourable for identification and separation of mixtures of aluminium(III), manganese(II), and chromium(VI). The presence of the carbohydrate enhances the separation efficiency ...

Cetylpyridinium Chloride Micelle-mediated Mutual Separation of Zinc, Cadmium, and Mercury Ions by Thin-layer Chromatography

Cationic surfactant-mediated systems containing different concentrations of cetylpyridinium chloride have been used as mobile phases in thin-layer chromatographic separation of metal cations on silica layers. The effect of surfactant concentrations below and above the critical micelle concentration (CMC) on the retention behaviour of metal ions was examined. The best TLC system for rapid mutual...

Paper Chromatography

In this laboratory exercise we will separate and identify the cations in an aqueous mixture that possibly contains Fe 3+ , Ni 2+ or Cu 2+ salts. The separation will be achieved using Paper Chromatography. Identification of the cations will be affected by simultaneously running separate solutions, each containing a single salt of these ions, through the chromatographic system and comparing the r...

Thin-layer chromatographic specification and separation of Cu(1+), Cu(2+), Ni(2+), and Co(2+) cations.

The M(PyDTC)(2) (M: Cu, Co, or Ni) and CuPyDTC complexes, prepared by reactions of ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate with metal nitrates, are examined for qualitative analysis, speciation, and mutual separation using thin-layer chromatography systems. These complexes and their mixtures are spotted to the activated and non-activated thin layers of silica gel 60GF(254) (Si-60GF(254)) with a 250...
